I've wanted a sup for years after having been on friends' boards and loving the experience. Every year my wife would balk over the price and I would sadly hang my head and agree. I'm turning 40 this summer and I asked her what she thought about getting one for my b-day and this time she said go for it! So, I immediately started researching. Now, I know everyone does this, but I'm a freak about research. I literally poured hours and hours into it. I decided on an inflatable for ease and storage reasons. Other boards came up more frequently in reviewers' top picks but that is because Atoll, from my understanding, is relatively new to the game. What reviews I did find were always 5 star, from Amazon to independent folks in the world of stand-up paddle boarding. But reviews aren't enough to make a decision right? Well, if you also compare the specs you'll find that the Atoll isup is also at the top in what they offer and the price is just right. You also get all the extras you need. Anyway, the board came and I inflated it immediately. So, lots of people talk about how hard it is to get isups to 15+ psi with just a hand pump. Granted I think I'm in pretty good shape, could lose a few pounds, but I didn't find it to be that hard. Give yourself about 5-10 minutes with the last 5psi the hardest. It's really not that bad. All inflated, the board was totally rigid and beautiful. I left it inflated for a few days to see how it held the pressure and there was not a fraction of change. It was easy to deflate and roll up and fit perfectly in the backpack bag it came with. The paddle is a little heavy but I like that it breaks down for travel and storage. An upgrade to a carbon fiber one is an easy and affordable addition if you want it. This hasn't been water tested yet but it will be soon and I have no doubts as to how it will perform. At the end of the day this is a hands down decision, go with Atoll!
