I got this to carry my 8 week old around Disneyland. I have another wrap that I prefer, but I needed something cooler to wear in the heat. It worked really well. It was easy to put on and put my baby in it. Baby didn’t seem to get too hot in it. We were out in 90 degree weather. I did keep a fan on him most of the time and spent as much time in the shade as possible, but the mesh back allowed airflow and kept baby pretty cool. (As much as possible in 90+ degree weather)It is easy to adjust to nurse baby too. I was able to nurse him in the carrier pretty easily while walking around Disneyland. The only complaint I really have is that the material where baby’s legs go is not comfortable. I put my baby in it without pants and he had sores from it rubbing on his legs. After that I just made sure he had pants on or tucked a blanket or burp rag in there so his legs wouldn’t rub and he was just fine. Not a huge deal, but still inconvenient sometimes.Overall a good carrier especially for the heat. There are a lot of carriers of this style on the market, most of them variations of the same thing. There are differences in the snaps, how the straps are arranged, etc. but none of those things are usually deal breakers. We all come in different shapes and sizes so what differentiates them is fit and this ultimately determines comfort. The most important factor is finding one that has a waist belt so that the weight of the baby doesn't rest solely on your shoulders and is also distributed to your hips.I've tired 4 carriers of this type: Beco Gemini, Baby Bjorn Original, Baby Bjorn One, Ergo. I liked Baby Bjorn One the most. I also have a Boba wrap.Beco GeminiPros: It's one of the less expensive options. You can carry your baby facing in, out, or on the side. It also allows you to cross the straps in the back when he's forward facing. There are flaps at the bottom right above the waistband you can fold inward and snap to narrow it so that the newborn can sit in the carrier with their legs hanging down. The alternative is to have him facing in and tucked in a frog leg position. The body of the carrier is the most narrow of the ones I've tried, which worked well for me since I have a small frame.Cons: No matter what I did, I could not position the newborn comfortably in the carrier. I also found the snaps hard to buckle and unbuckle with one hand. These snaps were the most poorly designed of the lot making the carrier very clumsy to put on. Also, since this is a really narrow carrier, I don't think it will work well when they are older since the legs will be less supported.Baby Bjorn OriginalWe got this one as a gift and it is the worst carrier. I would not recommend this even though it is the cheapest option.Pros: We were easily able to use this on our newborn facing in with his legs hanging down since the bottom (crotch) piece is narrow. It allows you to carry him facing in or out. The clasps are well designed so it's easy to buckle with one hand.Cons: The shoulder straps are not well-padded and once the baby gets heavier (>12 pounds for us), it digs in and causes the shoulders to ache. There is also no waist strap so all the weight of the baby rests on your shoulders. Also, this means there is no anchor for the carrier below. When you lean forward, the straps slide from the weight of the baby leading him to fall forward. With the narrow piece at the crotch that's not adjustable in width, this leaves his legs dangling and unsupported, not in the natural seated position, as he gets older.Baby Bjorn OneWe bought the cotton one and this is my favourite carrier. It is, by far, the most versatile.Pros: You can use it on a newborn without any adaptive device like an insert. There are zippers on either side at the bottom that allow you to narrow the crotch piece to adapt the sitting position. You can use it front or back facing. You can also carry your child piggyback but I have a feeling that when the time comes, a framed carrier is the way to go. The carrier also folds up neatly. The snaps are well conceived and easy to use, not as easy as the Original but much better than the Beco.Cons: The material is thick and the carrier is bulky. The mesh might be better for that reason but it's much more expensive.Ergo OriginalPros: As many have mentioned, the best feature of the Ergo is having a pocket in the front where you can store some essentials that are easily accessible. None of the other carriers I tried had this feature. Also, there is a hoodie to protect the baby from the sun. This can be used facing in, on your hip, or piggy back. I found this carrier really comfortable.Cons: 1) You need an insert to use as a newborn. I tried the insert and found it difficult to position with the baby. It was just really awkward. It was also thick making the baby too warm. 2) It doesn't allow you to carry the baby front facing. Once he got to 3 months old, he really wanted to be able to see the world.BobaPros: The best option for newborns. It allows you to position the baby in a frog leg position facing in. When they have very little head control, they can be tucked nicely against you.Cons: The fabric is really stretchy so as the baby gets heavier, the whole thing sags. It's also a ton of fabric making it really hot for both you and the baby. It's fairly simple to wrap but not really something that can be done in public as the ends drag on the ground, so I didn't find much use for it outside the house. Unlike other people, I didn't find it that easy to insert the baby as he got bigger. This was my primary carrier for the first year of my baby's life. And I generally loved it! (*although for the first 3 months, the Baby K'tan was my EVERYTHING- I only used the Beco outside of the house, like in the grocery store- and the K'tan for around the house.) It (the Gemini) was a life-saver for travel- we flew 7 times in his first year, and never needed a stroller- all you need is your Beco! I was able to breastfeed in it, and I never had issues with the safety buckles- they're not that hard to use! But after a full year of using it almost daily, there are a few things about it that I don't like, and for that reason I would probably recommend purchasing the Beco Soleil instead- for these reasons:Gemini Cons:-No pocket (this was a pain! Sometimes you just want to bring your phone/credit card/tissues/etc. & I missed having a pocket many times)-No sleep hood (I really disliked the fold up headrest on the Gemini- it never seemed very effective to me & I only used it a couple times)-Snaps at legs would detach all the time. (if I bent over at all, one of the snaps on the bottom would come undone, taking away the support from one of the baby's legs)-And mostly- the lower weight limit/smaller dimensions. By the time my baby hit a year old (& only 20 pounds/31 inches), I felt like he was outgrowing the Gemini already, which was disappointing. When I wore him on my back, the carrier only went about 2/3 up his back, and he didn't seem very comfortable, and would lean way over to the side- like he could wriggle out. The narrowness of the Gemini is what appealed to me in the beginning (I'm 5'2" & 115 lbs), but I wasn't thinking ahead- and babies grow so fast. When I put him in the Soleil the 1st time at 13 months old, his happiness was apparent. It was much more comfortable for him- more leg support (knee-to-knee), more back support (& more support for me as a result). I think the Gemini's 35-pound weight limit is a tad misleading (not just for this carrier, but for many I would guess)- while technically the carrier can support that much weight, your baby is more likely to outgrow it height-wise rather than weight-wise, especially if on the taller side. (A short baby will be fine for longer- but I feel like once they hit 32" tall it's going to become noticeably less comfortable).Gemini Pros (over the Soleil): baby can face out; no newborn insert requiredThe Soleil really seems like the perfect carrier to me! (well, for me) It has a pocket big enough for an iphone/credit cards/keys; it has an awesome detachable sleep hood; it's wide & tall enough for toddlers, but still works for young infants, and it comes in the same great prints as the Gemini (I have 'Twilight', which is gorgeous). If you decide to use it in the newborn days, you can purchase the insert, but really, it's a brief period of time & a cheaper stretchy carrier or mei tei will do you just fine until baby is 3 months old. Also, like the Gemini, it's awesome for traveling - wear your baby right through security, and everywhere else too!I'm not sure why the Gemini has so many reviews compared to the Soleil (500+ vs 65)- I'm guessing (in addition to the Soleil being a few years newer) it's that the ability to have the baby face-out is a major draw for parents. As far as the facing-out position goes, I have heard some babies dislike being worn facing in at certain ages. However, mine seemed to enjoy facing in (& he still could look around behind me & on either side). So I only wore him facing out a few times. Why? Because it just isn't as comfortable/ergonomic to wear that way! It felt 10 times more natural/comfortable to wear him facing in (or on my back, when he was about 6 months old). Plus, of course the recommendations are to only wear facing-out for short durations of time. So for me personally, that capability isn't something that I found very important/useful.Whether you go with the Gemini or Soleil, you'll probably be satisfied. I just thought I'd chime in about why I made the switch! If you have the $$$, the most ideal thing would be to buy both :) But most people don't want to spend $300 on carriers, so be sure you get the best one for you up-front. (Although they have decent re-sale value, so worst-case you can sell it & get a new one if it's not working out).I find this more comfortable to wear and less cumbersome than ergo baby 360, which is a good carrier, but this one is much more light weight, easier to transport, and is less bulky to wear.I have so much trust in this product! It’s easy to use and worth the money!I bought this carrier after a BabyBjorn. Found this so much betterLove this, get so much use out of it, its perfect as a baby carrier, easy to put on when you're on your own. Very comfortable, highly recommendUse it daily. Still durable. The only downside it is not entirely breathable. I use it for hiking , and if I was buying another I would be looking for a product that didnt end in my baby getting a sweat shower.
